Reflections of Didou — Revitalizing an Old Cinema as a Township Living Room

The project proposes a new use for an old cinema in Didou Town, Zhaoqing. While preserving the building's original character and historical value, it plans a township living room supporting celebrations, exhibitions, meetings, public fitness, and lectures.

The proposal includes pottery experiences, local peanut products, and Tianxiang rice-wine displays to explore a mixed operating model combining public services with small-scale cultural tourism.

The project was submitted to the Zhaoqing High-Quality Development Project for Counties, Towns and Villages special track of the 18th Challenge Cup Guangdong College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition.

The proposal configures the main hall with movable screens, fixed chairs, and retractable seating to support conferences, film screenings, markets, and sports. A health station, medicine vending, and convenience retail are planned outside the hall.

The second floor is planned for displays, hands-on experiences, and retail related to Caiming-kiln pottery, peanut products, and Tianxiang rice-wine culture, with interactive displays, AR guidance, creative products, and online services.

The operating plan includes festivals, public film nights, creative markets, study tours, and livestream commerce, supported by a governance model combining government coordination, professional operators, resident oversight, and university partnerships.

The project also includes renovation and operating-cost estimates, revenue analysis, SWOT analysis, and risk responses. These are competition-stage plans whose costs, returns, and operating outcomes require validation through implementation.
